Diverse and cosmopolitan, Rio Loco is an absolute must in the round of summer festivals. For years now it has been staging creative affinities and novel multidisciplinary projects and featuring the major artist on the international scene to audiences of almost a hundred thousand.
Since 1995, well-known artists such as Omara Portuondo, Seu Jorge, Orchestra Baobab, Balkan Beat Box, Rachid Taha, Paco de Lucía, Idir, George Clinton or Chavela Vargas have dropped by to sing, dance and party wilth locals and their families, but the Rio Loco program is also an "open mike" where yound performers have a chance to show off their talents to France. For example : the new 'voice' of flamenco Buika, gave her first concert in the Hexagon on the prairie des Filtres in 2007, the delicious Hindi Zahra offered her first French 'Beautiful Tango' to festival-goers in 2009. In 2010, the 'kwela pop' group Desmond & The Tutus, in their first concert in France, blew apart (Rock!) all preconceived ideas about Johannesburg…
On a site decoratively staged each year by an artist from the part of the world invited, the festival is a neverending stream of discovery with contemporary visual creations, shows for the young and midnight movies!
