The king of the “Balkan Beat”
Born in Germany, Shantel's family roots originate in Moldavia. Fascinated by Romanian gypsy music, he first launched his 'Bucovina Club' DJ nights in Frankfurt, where his funky remixes of Balkan gypsy music became an immediate hit. He was central to the 'Electric Gypsyland' record project, which combined electronic and gypsy music. Pioneering the Balkan sound's entry on the dance floors and at rave parties, he released an album in 2007 ("Disko Partizani") celebrating Balkan pop. On stage, where he sings and plays guitar, Shantel leads his vibrant brass band with verve and jubilation. The seductive Serbian chanteuse Vesna Petkovic will also be featuring.
