In this ephemeral village you'll find everything you might want to know or understand about the Balkans. Come and browse your way around the stalls of the various cultural organisations. Take time out between two concerts to discover, learn or exchange. If you simply want to relax and have fun, a number of themed board games are available.

Not even your worst nightmares could prepare you for this amazing, unimaginable experience. You're looking for the ultimate scare? Well here it is. Dare to visit ManifestO and its terrifying journey through a Transylvania haunted by vampires. Everyone will receive a photo souvenir to mark the encounter. But don't forget to empty your pockets of garlic, crucifix or rosaries first!
SEQUENCE COURT-METRAGE
Short films / New for 2008
In collaboration with the Séquence Court-Métrage festival, Rio Loco invites you to discover the Balkans through a selection of short films.
This original idea offers a new way of getting acquainted with the featured countries. On the menu: five atypical one-hour programmes, made up of films that are zany, funny or perhaps with a serious message. Testifying to their impressive creativity and vitality, they include award-winners from several international film festivals.

LUDI'MONDE

Ludi’monde is a Toulousain cultural and socio-educational association which organises a variety of fun activities, giving both beginners and advanced players the opportunity to enjoy the rich world of board games. It regularly participates in festivals and other events, including the Festival du Jeu in Toulouse. During Rio Loco, it will be presenting a selection of traditional and modern games, all with a Balkan theme. Among other adventures, come and conquer Ancient Greece, drive a gypsy caravan or hunt vampires in the Carpathians.
TERRA NOVA

If you are determined to take a little piece of the Balkans home with you, then the Terra Nova stand is a real treasure chest. You'll find here a profusion of books and CDs featuring all the artists appearing at Rio Loco. Queues are expected at the book-signing sessions for the author Velibor Colic (21 June at 17:00) and the storyteller Muriel Bloch (22 June at 18:30). And the “Au fil des Balkans” creative craft workshops for children will be held every day from 17:00 to 19:00.
STRUCTURES MUSICALES by ETIENNE FAVRE
An interactive installation with entertaining acoustic objects, for old and young
Anyone can play at being musician, composer, creator of sounds, with the acoustic machines invented by Etienne Favre. Around twenty giant instruments that will astonish and surprise, gizmos, thingummies, whatsits, oddities (saucepan tree, bike guitar, broom wheel, etc.) that visitors of all ages will adore playing with.

The sombre side of the Balkans. Amnesty International, a sounding board for human rights abuses, is not afraid to push where it hurts, reveal the unspoken, and expose dark deeds. Racial discrimination against Roma, violence against women during the civil wars, the plight of refugees and war victims in the former Yugoslavia …
GUERNICA ADPE

This exhibition of photographs and films, together with a book presentation, casts the spotlight on the former Yugoslavia. It has been organised by the Guernica ADPE association, whose mission since 1993 has been to provide information on the region.

The Balkans, staging post in the long advance of the gypsies across time and space that began somewhere in the north of India, in the 10th century. A painful experience, not just yesterday and today, but perhaps tomorrow as well.
Serfdom - Pogroms - Exclusion
This history, and their culture will be presented at the Festival. The association also underscores how these people are now made to feel UNWELCOME and REJECTED when they leave the Balkans and set foot in the countries of western Europe.

For an insightful, well-informed view of Albania and Kosovo, a visit to the France-Pyrénées-Midi-Albanie (AFPMA) stand is a must. Not only a source of precious information, it also gives an idea of the vitality of the region's artistic and intellectual capacity, through the cultural items presented.
